AB de Villiers has backed South Africa to bounce back after the Faf du Plessis-led side suffered three back-to-back defeats in their first three games of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019. The Proteas have recorded their worst start to a World Cup campaign as they find themselves on the brink of early elimination inside the first week of the start of the showpiece event. De Villiers took to Twitter to send out a message to his former South African teammates after their latest 6-wicket defeat against India at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

South Africa's World Cup campaign has been heavily marred with injuries as Du Plessis's men have been dealt several blows in the run-up to the tournament. Pacer Anrich Nortje was ruled out ahead of the start of the tournament, while senior pacer Dale Steyn had to pull out from the competition after failing to recover from a shoulder injury. Another key pacer Lungi Ngidi is out at least for a week after pulling his hamstring. It has been a difficult campaign for South Africa so far but De Villiers believes the World Cup is a long tournament as he backed the Proteas to go all the way.
